Vivien Leigh, British film actor. She has won two Oscars for her roles as Scarlett O'Hara in the film Gone with the Wind and Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire. In 1999, she was voted 16th place by the AFI's 100 Years... 100 Stars.

Vivien Leigh believes her beauty sometimes prevents people from seeing her as an actress, but her health is her biggest obstacle. Bipolar disorder has been with her almost her entire life and has earned her a reputation as a difficult person to live with, as well as a career of ups and downs. In 1940s, she was diagnosed with chronic tuberculosis, made weaker by repeated episodes. In 1960, she divorced Olivier, and until her death from tuberculosis, she appeared only occasionally on screen and on stage.

Vivien Leigh is a prolific actress who has worked with her husband, Laurence Olivier, on screen, and Olivier has directed many of her films. During her 30 year acting career, she has played a wide variety of roles, from leading ladies in Noël Coward and George Bernard Shaw Comedies to roles in classic Shakespeare plays, oPHELIA, Cleopatra, Juliette and Lady Macbeth.
